THE LIVING LEGACY VIDEO

EVERYBODY HAS A STORY TO TELL!

The strength of family lineage is strongly related to how effectively older generations pass on their values, lessons and stories. We live in unprecedented times where with today’s technology, life experience and achievements can be captured then sculpted into a powerful moving biography. We are the experts at bringing unrivaled immediacy to your loved one’s triumphs and tribulations making them a living legacy built to last for generations to come.

Part of our secret sauce is found in our ability to create a relaxed and comfortable relationship with your loved one. This makes the process joyful while also getting them to tell their stories to the camera just like they did at the dinner table over the holidays. By adorning these recorded stories with footage, stills and music we then take the life of your loved one and transmute their memories into vibrant, relatable movies.

From a standalone legacy video interview to fully produced documentaries, whatever you might have in mind trust us to be the vehicle to bring loved ones and familial generations closer together!

“I feel so fortunate to have found Slicing Light! They created a moving 50 minute video biography of my father that incorporated footage from a personal interview they conducted, photos, videos, music and narration. They did an amazing job researching and tracking down a wide variety of material that gave much of the feeling of a personalized period piece. I really appreciated the creativity, flexibility, thoughtfulness and genuine interest in the project. Initially it was their vision for the project that put me at ease. Ultimately it was their storytelling talent that created a final product that will be treasured by our family for many years to come. “

Nicolas Gentin

“The human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law and business are noble pursuits to sustain life. But poetry, beauty and love, these are what we stay alive for”.

Professor John Keating in the movie Dead Poet Society

FAQs

I see the value of recording the memories of my parents but can’t I do this myself?

Yes you can. Just taking out your phone and asking your loved one a series of questions about their life can capture invaluable memories easily. Having such a video to keep is far better than having no recording at all and we highly recommend doing that if you choose not to pay for this service. Years later when your loved one is no longer there these incidental recordings are of much more value than ever anticipated. That said, if you intend to share these memories with others including your children and grandchildren then handing the task over to a professional can vastly improve how watchable the video is. We make videos that are moving, compelling and perennially viewable.

How much does a legacy video cost?

Some companies offer package pricing where the bronze or platinum package grants you a certain interview length, video running time, amount of stills allowed etc. Legacy videos are highly individual projects each with their own scope and stylistic demands. We discuss with our clients on a case by case basis what they are looking for and have produced videos fitting most any budget.

What is the normal running time for legacy videos

We’re often asked what the right length of a legacy video is. Legacy videos generally run anywhere between 30 to 90 minutes. That wide difference is because the stories being shared and the way they flow together dictate to a large extent a finished legacy video’s length. You know you hit the mark on the “right length” when your viewers forget how long a legacy video was while also feeling connected, informed and moved by the subject matter. We work with you on finding that sweet spot.

How long does the process take from onset to finished product?

Normally 4 weeks is the turn around time.

In what format do I receive my legacy video?

We provide USB thumb drives and files that can be downloaded. An additional private link to our server allows a person to stream the video straight in their browser. Delivery of final products on DVD or BluRay disc are also still available upon request for an additional charge.

Are your legacy videos solely for capturing the memories of senior loved ones?

Leaving a legacy of any kind means leaving a lasting imprint. Full life biographies are but one facet of using video to honor someone. All of life’s milestones from births, birthday celebrations, confirmations, bar mitzvahs, graduations, mariages, anniversaries, retirements or achievements of any kind present opportunities to celebrate and reflect. Additionally, memorial videos honoring someone who has recently passed serves as a powerful way to honor a loved one’s life. It allows all those touched by that person in some way to remember a life well lived.
